I tried the ceiling bounce but was only illuminating the corners of the room. I ended up putting umbrellas on my flashes because at the height the ring was it would have cause blinding. My first attempt at fast paced indoor sports, but I did learn a few things once I saw them on the iMac. Anyway heres what I captured. http://www.flickr.com/photos/13093722@N03/sets/72157625940379916/

Cross lighting would work best if you can get the lights up as high as possible. The closest to 45 degree angle the better when you're aiming your lights directly at your subject. I would bounce directly off the ceiling since it is low. You'll get a nice, diffused light instead of less diffused, directional cross lighting. Hope that helps.

So you would recommend a straight bounce up toward the ceiling? I was thinking cross lighting but I never shot an event like this so every bit of advice helps. Thank you very much!

Will,
It looks like the ceiling of that venue is pretty low, which should allow you to bounce off light from your strobes pretty well. The smaller the distance from your strobes to the ceiling, the better.

Very helpful site. I have an upcoming wrestling event I wanted to shoot for a friend. I have 2 strobes on lightstands, here is a picture of the venue, just imagine a ring in there. How should i go about setting this up considering ceiling height and all. http://m.facebook.com/pages/Corky-Row-Club/190089381017907?refid=20

This entire catastrophe with BP is ridiculous. The amount of petroleum pouring forth into the Gulf of Mexico sprung up by 1000's of barrels Wednesday after an submerged robot ostensibly struck the containment cap that has been capturing petroleum from BP's Macondo well. I question how much destruction this whole catastrophe is going to cost the world when it's all said and done
